Project Summary:

Protein-protein interactions (PPI) are crucial to most biological processes; and viruses often interfere with the host cell’s function by altering its PPI network. In some cases PPIs are mediated by short sequences of amino acids (3 to 8 amino acids) among the long stretches of interacting sequences (motifs). The specific aim of this project is to discover and annotate sequence motifs associated with host/pathogen interactions. Such work will potentially have an important impact on understanding the grammar of host/pathogen cross talk. Our discovery method is illustrated on HIV-1 since its interactions with human proteins have been investigated more extensively compared to those of other viruses.

Research Interests:

Computational Discovery of Host Pathogen Interactions, Biological Data Integration, Microarray Analysis
