Current Project

Global gene expression analyses of cancer and healthy tissues typically result in large numbers of significantly altered genes in cancer. Such data, however, has been difficult to interpret due to the high level of variation of gene lists across labs and the small sample sizes used in individual studies. The integration of over 2,500 microarray samples across several labs, has allowed for the extensive analysis of cancer in 11 different tissue types. Dimensional reduction of such lists through bimodal genes and similarities in switching behavior among tissues has been predictive of metastatic tendencies of different cancers. This research provides insight for biomarker development and drug discovery.
