DREXEL BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING MENTORING PROGRAM Drexel University has formed a partnership with the University City High School for preparing interested students for a productive career in the biotechnology industry. The program consists of one-on-one mentoring of junior and high school students by Drexel University graduate students under the guidance of Professor Aydin Tozeren and his staff at the Center for Integrated Bioinformatics of Drexel University. The features of the mentorship program are as follows:
2) Mentorship activities take place at the Drexel University campus and consist of two 90 minute sessions per week. 3) Mentorship program focuses on preparation for the standard tests, helping with course work, teaming for a science project as well as related activities such as learning how to create one’s own web page. 4) The ultimate aim of the program is to develop an effective pipeline from high school to community college and or four year college that will prepare students for high paying and challenging jobs in the biotechnology industry. 5) Drexel University School of Biomedical Engineering has agreed to admit all students in this program who successfully complete the high school and community college phases of the program to its nationally accredited biomedical engineering undergraduate program. These students will have advanced status and should be able to complete their education at Drexel University in three years in a setting that provides 6 months academic education and 6 months professional training as coop students. Students completing the Drexel program are well poised to develop productive careers in the biomedical industry. There are also significant tuition discounts upon entering this program.
What the Mentees Said.....
Anita Ban Alexandra is a really good help. She helps me study with my SAT. She is a very nice person. She helps me understand some of the homework.
Nijah Overby Karan is an ongoing, helpful person. He is also very intelligent. Having someone like him for help motivates me to be better at almost everything academically. The Drexel program is a good opportunity for me to get extra help outside of school. It helps me with my homework, college preparation and SAT pre. I believe this program is a stepping stone to a great future.
Eugene Davis Adam is a good mentor. He helps me with all my homework questions. This program helps me a lot. It exposes me to a new environment.
Latasha Royster Ezgi is a very good mentor, because when she helps me with my math, she makes sure I understand. When I first came here to Drexel I didn’t really understand the math that we were doing in class until Ezgi helped me.
Kevin Emery Maulik is an excellent mentor. He really breaks algebra and physics down to it’s simplest form. He’s really a good teacher and it’s really fun working with him.
Danielle Woods My mentor Chang, is fun to work with. He is very helpful and has help make my school work much more easier for me to understand. Before I came to this program I knew nothing about math and now the work is so much easier for me and now I am passing test and quizzes.
Justine Golphin My name is Junstine. Helen is my mentor. I’m so glad to have her for my mentor because she’s patient and when I think all hope is gone, she lets me know I’ll be okay. This program has helped me understand math and encouraged me to do better.
Juky Louineus My mentor is very intelligent and in some of the homework that I have, I don’t have a clue on how to do it. He knows his stuff! Even when I have really bad notes, he is always able to find the results.
Moya Grierson This program has been very helpful. I learn new things every time I come, and meet new people.
Zakera Moore I really like this program. It is really fun and the people are nice. I really enjoy it, and would like to be here next year.
