Biosketch

Dr. Aydin Tozeren received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1974. Since then, he has published in the areas of cell adhesion and signaling , molecular basis of muscle contraction, biomechanics, and mathematical modeling of biological systems. Dr. Tozeren's book Human Body Dynamics: Classical Mechanics and Human Movement received the Best Engineering Title Award for the year 2000 by the Association of American Publishers. His new book, New Biology for Engineers and Computer Scientists introduces the basic elements of system biology to engineers, physicists and computer scientists. Dr. Tozeren held academic and research positions at Columbia University, the National Institutes of Health, and the Catholic University of America, where he served as the chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Tozeren received and directed research grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Fund, as well as a recent biomedical engineering infrastructure special opportunity grant from the Whitaker Foundation. Dr. Tozeren has taught a large number of graduate and undergraduate courses, guided doctoral dissertations, and in 1996, received the Alpha Delta Gamma Outstanding Teacher Award at the Catholic University of America. During the year 2001, he served as a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors of the Whitaker Foundation. Currently he is a professor of Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University and the Director of Drexel's Integrated Bioinformatics Program.
